Our 6 Step Rug Cleaning Process

Our state-of-the-art rug cleaning facility will thoroughly clean, preserve and protect your rugs with the following process:

Step 1: Pre Inspection

On arrival, our expert Master Rug Technicians carefully inspect your area rug, identifying the construction, fibres, any potential pre-existing stains or damage. All of their findings are carefully and fully documented before any cleaning takes place.

We carry out this pre-inspection as it forms the basis for deciding which cleaning methods we need to use for each of your rugs. We’ll discuss with you the results from our findings, what cleaning we recommend for your rugs, and what sort of results you can expect us to achieve, particularly, with regards to removing any types of stains.

Inspecting a rug before we clean it also means we can easily compare the results afterwards. Importantly, we can safeguard your rugs, providing them with the right types of cleaning and care, to achieve the best results possible.

Step 2: Dry Soil Removal

Our rug cleaning facility is equipped with a state-of-the-art automatic rug duster that uses compressed air and leather straps to gently beat the rug to remove dry soil, dust, sand and grit.

It’s easier to loosen and remove dry soil from a rug at this stage with our rug duster, before it has the chance to transform into mud when the rug undergoes immersion washing later on.

Dry soil can be especially damaging to the fibres in a rug, as particles such as grit and sand can be abrasive, which can cause wear and tear to rug fabrics over time. This dry soil removal process is, therefore, really important to help keep a rug in a good condition and to preserve its longevity.

Step 3: Submersion Cleaning

All Oriental, Persian, Fine and Wool rugs are cleaned in our rug spa; this is where the rug is fully submerged in a wool-safe cleaning solution. All rugs are hand cleaned, agitated, rinsed and stain treated.

We use specialist solutions that soften and loosen stubborn dirt, break down stains and odours, and erase contaminants. When we agitate the rug during the washing stage, the safe cleaning solutions we use work deep inside the fibres of the rug, gently yet effectively dislodging the dirt.

Water is applied at high-pressure to repeatedly and thoroughly rinse and clean all areas of the rug, including delicate fringing. This allows us to remove high levels of dirt from the rug, so it’s restored to a bright, clean and hygienic condition. Effective rinsing also means that we remove as much dirt and residues as possible, so rapid resoiling from residue exposure isn’t an issue for your rugs.

Step 4: Rinsing

The rug is placed in a custom-made centrifuge where it will be rinsed with cool water and then dried through the power of the 900 rpm centrifuge. This fast-spinning machine applies centrifugal force to draw out the moisture from the rug, in an entirely safe process that doesn’t harm delicate fibres.

Rinsing in a centrifuge removes most of the moisture from the rug, which conveniently reduces the drying time. On completion, the rug emerges from the centrifuge 95% dry.

Additionally, it protects the rug from experiencing problems associated with being left damp for a long time, such as colour runs, shrinkage and the development of mould and mildew. It also helps a rug to keep hold of its shape and retain its texture.

Step 5: Drying, Detailing & Inspection

The rug is then moved to a purpose-made room to be hung for drying, where the temperature, airflow and humidity levels are carefully controlled.

This ensures your rugs receive the ideal climate conditions for drying properly and safely. It also reduces the risk of problems affecting the colours in a rug and its textures, whilst keeping a rug in an optimum condition.

Once fully dry, all rugs are meticulously inspected to ensure stains, spots, spills, and odours have been fully removed, and any missed spots can be treated. Once the rug passes our stringent inspection, it’s carefully groomed to reset the fibres so they are positioned correctly. Any fringing in the rug will also be straightened.

We guarantee complete satisfaction for our customers, so our post-cleaning inspection stage is really important to make sure every rug is returned in an optimal condition, and it’s ready to be used again.

Step 6: Premium Stain Protection

We highly recommend having our Premium Stain Protection applied to your area rug after it has been cleaned. Our environmentally friendly stain protection bonds to the fibre and adds a protective barrier to prevent oil and food-based spills from soaking in. This invisible barrier also helps prevent dry soil from penetrating which in turn makes vacuuming more effective.

Our stain protection is also odourless, so your rugs won’t smell, and once it has been applied, your rugs are completely safe for everyone in the family to use. The barrier protection is long-lasting, and can provide protection for your rugs for up to two years.

If your rugs are valuable, or they get used a lot by kids and pets, having stain protection added can give you peace of mind that your rugs are safeguarded when spills and stains occur.
